NCI: As one of the DoD Manufacturing / Textile Engineer ( Functional Engineer ), you will support the Product Manager for PEO Soldier Protective Equipment (PdM SPE) at Fort Belvoir, VA. You will be a part of a team responsible for analyzing results of ballistic and non-ballistic testing to ensure soldier protective equipment efficiencies. Highlights of Responsibilities:
  • Responsible for a portfolio of protective products, such as:
    • Soft body armor,
    • Hard body armor,
    • Head protection, 
    • Ballistic eyewear.
  • Provide technical expertise or specialty engineering in Acquisition Systems Engineering and systems standards, military operations, program analysis, requirements analysis, program planning and cost analysis.
  • Perform design, development, fabrication, testing, installation and troubleshooting.
  • Manage the activities of the group and help keep personnel on track to achieve project objectives including coordinating activities involving application or implementation of recommendations.
  • Act as an internal resource for project team leader in the analysis, evaluation, testing, troubleshooting, and documentation of products, processes, and systems.
  • Provide assistance in acquisition, program, and project management as needed but focus mainly on systems engineering work as it pertains to the SPE portfolio of protective equipment.
  • Investigate and resolve problems, and interface with other functions and outside personnel.
  • Focus on support development and subsequent improvement of management processes and tools pertaining to the soft armor protective equipment program.
  • Tasks may include:
    • Engineering assignments and projects involving research,
    • Product development, 
    • Design and testing.
  • Identify and analyze situations and/or issues, consider options, develop solutions, and decide on, implement and monitor appropriate solutions.
  • Participate in the development of design standards and recommend modifications, and participate in organizational initiatives with various teams.
  • Provide mission oriented, strong critical thinking and problem solving skills.
  • Present research and recommendations in both oral and written format.
  • Ability to generate and desire to communicate innovative ideas in a collaborative environment.

Requirements:
  • Active DoD Secret clearance.
  • Bachelors in directly related field (Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Material Science).
  • 5 years experience with DoD 5000.02 Acquisition processes OR within a Manufacturing environment.
  • Experience with Textile Engineering and/or Manufacturing.
  • Competence in MS Office tools.
  • May require up to 25% travel to various lab and production sites.

Preferred Education and Experience:

  • Experience in life cycle management policies, procedures, and practices.
  • Experience working in a military environment.
